The INDEX stem is a fresh addition to the Wethepeople range, and a unique product to say the least. The original concept behind the stem grew from an idea to have a frontload stem that featured more rise than most could offer, whilst keeping the same simple and clean look that we all loved about frontload stems in the first place.
Tested by the team over the past year, the INDEX Stem features 16mm of rise, rather than the normal 5mm that most frontload stems have. We found that a lot of riders (especially park riders) liked the extra height that a topload stem offers, specifically when being used with a gyro or rotor setup. After seeing many park riders flip their frontload stems for extra rise, we tried to create a stem that would give you more height without looking too kooky or strange.
Since most riders who run a rotor already have an adequate amount of headset spacers, the INDEX stem can give you a bar height similar to a topload stem (seen below on the 2017 Versus complete).
We decided to keep the stem as simple as possible from the outside, however on the top of the stem we removed material and inside and you'll find a larger central bore hole which helps keep weight down to a minimum. Despite having a much wider 48mm clamping area for superior grip, the INDEX still remains on the lighter side at 330g (11.6oz).
The INDEX stem is currently ridden by many of the Wethepeople PRO team, including Mike Curley who was a major help during the development stages.
The INDEX Stem is available at your local shop or BMX mailorder in Black, Polished, Oilslick or Red.
